This Week in Slashwork
We’ve been busy again the last couple of weeks continuing to build, improve, and iterate on the product. Here are the biggest changes we’re excited to share.

⬅️ Left Nav Redesign
You probably noticed that the left nav was getting really messy, so we reorganised and simplified it. It’s now got a consistent two-tier structure, separating apart groups and chats more clearly. We’re still heavily iterating on this.

🎨 Custom Emoji
You can now create your own emoji! When you react to a post, there’s a new “+” button. Click it and you can create a custom emoji anyone at the company can use. This was an oft-requested feature to bring a bit of human whimsy to the workplace, which we’re all about. (Did we mention it works with animated GIFs too?)

📍 Location
Company administrators can now set a location for their employees – either from a list of fixed office locations (which the company admin can configure), or a one-off for a specific employee. If a location is set, we can show the current time for a person in their hovercard, so you can know whether they’re around or not. There’s a lot more we want to do with this in the future!

⚙ System Events
We’ll now automatically generate a post in a group when you change the group name or add someone to the group. (Posts when you change the cover photo are coming soon.) This will both help understand what’s been “going on” in the group, as well as make things feel a little more human and alive.

🖼 Media Improvements
We’ve made a number of small improvements around media and attachments on posts:
- Anything can now be attached to a post, instead of an explicit allowed list of MIME types
- You can upload (and even crop) animated GIFs
- Pasting a link defaults to inserting a preview of that link (simplifying the flow)
- A number of bugs causing images to not display quite right were fixed, especially one that a number of folks reported around images not showing up correctly immediately after being posted (thank you so much for letting us know!)
